The pressure Holter is a special automatic blood pressure measuring machine that records pressure fluctuations throughout the 24-hour period. It is a small portable device that runs on batteries. It is the size of a mobile phone, the examinee wears it around his waist and has a cuff (air chamber) which we attach to his arm, like a common blood pressure monitor.
Measurements are performed every 15 minutes during the day and every 30 minutes at night, while he has the ability to take additional measurements at the push of a button if he feels any symptoms.
The examination is painless and does not require special preparation. The examinee carries it with him for the entire 24 hours and is asked to follow his normal daily schedule. This examination is usually deemed necessary for the diagnosis of arterial hypertension and the evaluation of therapeutic treatment. The diagnostic value of the pressure Holter is very great, as hypertension is an insidious enemy (it does not cause symptoms) and is among the main predisposing factors of vasculopathy.
